Preliminary - Travel Itinerary

Welcome to our Latest Adventure!

 

 We've called it 'Missions, Monasteries and Monks' because our journey begins in Athens and traces the 2nd Missionary journey of the Apostle, St Paul which is covered in the book of Acts in the New Testament. We spend two weeks with a group of Salvation Army Officers just like ourselves, and we follow this holy pilgrimage.

 

Julie and I then set off on our own - back to Istanbul, then to track down the beautiful UNESCO listed Monasteries of northern Romania. On the way though, we discover the haunts of the Transylvania mountains, the magnificent Dracula's castle, and if we survive the wild bears, we head north to find the 'Happy cemetery' very close to the Ukraine border. We'll consume the local cheese and chocolates as we head back to Bucharest along the Moldovan border, before taking a plane to Chisinau, Moldova.

 

The Monks of Moldova have much to teach us. They live and serve in the poorest country in Europe, in austerity and humility. We will discover the wonders of the world famous Moldova wine industry, and explore the more than 120k's of underground WW2 tunnels now converted into the world class subterranean wine cellar. 

 

All the time of course, tracking over what was once part of the massive Roman Empire.
